What You Eat Standing Up Doesn't Count - Beth Barnes

A sweet lady just called with a wonderful story about the "What You Eat Standing Up Doesn't Count" napkins. She told me that her niece just bought some of the napkins for her as a gift. When she received them she was so excited. Why, you might ask? Because she is THE Beth Barnes who originally said "What You Eat Standing Up Doesn't Count".

Beth went on to say that about 25 years ago she threw a wonderful large party at her home. She looked around the room and no one was eating all her wonderful food that she worked so hard to prepare. So she announced to the crowd, "Everyone, What You Eat Standing up Doesn't Count! So eat!" She was trying her best to encourage everyone to eat. She said that she just thought of it off the cuff. How clever she is!

It turns out that one of the guests at the party was a woman who had a daughter who wrote anthologies. The daughter wrote an anthology on food and Beth's comment was included in the book. Luckily she was given credit for her clever line. And since that book came out, Beth's clever words have been on cards and other items. She was so excited that her words were also included on cocktail napkins.

I was so excited to hear the story. Beth Barnes made my day.
She went on to say, "It's my only claim to fame".
To which I replied, "I think that is a pretty big claim to fame!"

Thanks Beth for sharing that story. I enjoyed it very much.

And yes, I'll work on a nice discount for you. It is the least I can do!

New Cocktail Themed Jewelry From Sueanne Shirzay

You just have to take a look at these great new necklaces. Sueanne Shirzay of Shirzay Gallery created this line of cocktail inspired jewelry. We came across her beautiful pieces and just had to offer them to you.

There are three styles from which to choose:

The Appletini Necklace Delicious faceted grape green chalcedony paired with a cherry carnelian and sterling martini glass charm. 18'' sterling chain. Sterling lobster clasp closure.

The Cosmopolitan Necklace A sterling martini glass complete with stirrer is paired with a teardrop faceted red carnelian and tart slice of lime peridot nugget. YUMMY!!!! Sterling chain length is 18''. Sterling lobster clasp closure.

The Lemon Drop Necklace Tart and sweet! A lovely microfaceted lemon chalcedony is joined with a sugary clear round crystal and sterling martini glass charm. Sterling chain length is 18''. Sterling lobster clasp closure.

Sueanne's Bio: It is so much fun to make something with my own hands that goes on to become a part of someone else's life. At this very moment somebody somewhere out there might be feeding their kids, going to the gym, writing a novel, laughing with girlfriends over cosmos, or having a romantic dinner... all while wearing something I made. It's thrilling when something I make suits somebody so perfectly. Doing trunk shows is fun because it gives me a chance to see how things look on a variety of people. I had an art gallery for while and learned to make jewelry rather unexpectedly while popping in on a class at my own gallery in 2008. I got hooked within minutes. The infatuation has continued and I now sell the jewelry at trunk shows, galleries and local shops, as well as my two online stores. My philosophy is to create beautiful pieces that can be worn everyday or for an occasion, alone or layered for a more stylized look. I like to think my jewelry enhances the beauty of the woman wearing it. I don't want people to see the jewelry wearing the woman, rather the woman wearing the jewelry. I love working with color, color and more color. Semi-precious stones such as chalcedony, amethysts and aquamarines are among my favorites. I am happy to do custom orders, and love working with other creative people to create the perfect piece. My studio workspace migrates between my loft overlooking the Atlantic Ocean in Long Island NY and mountain house in the Catskills in a little place we have up there. You can't beat the silence and beauty of these kinds of landscapes. The pink sunsets on Long Island are really inspiring.
